They’re Still On Sale

You may remember me from Crazy Commons on April 7th as I shouted to every moving object, including those on the phone, traveling in tours, and possibly yourself. I was probably the person you wanted to ignore, while you tried to figure out why a girl was painted blue (by the way, the answer was to advertise for Avatar in Grafton this week).
In a more direct way of speaking, I’m Jenn Steinhardt, the Director of Spotlight Sounds, formerly a student-run record label named 80 One Records. Although we’ve made our progression in a new direction of providing small-venue, niche music concerts and events (with artists such as Stay at Home Greg, and the upcoming Ace Enders w/ Echo Screen), we still have a treat left from our label.

This year we’ve recorded an Americana-folk meets hometown rock artist, Joshua Vana. Away From My Door is the four-disk debut EP  that we’ve all been waiting for since he was signed during the fall 2009 Record Deal Rumble (you may also know the event as Rumble Down Under).
Vana is a senior here at James Madison University, studying the music industry. He plays frequently at Little Grill and around campus. On March 24th, he graced the TDU stage to promote the EP’s release. Both Joshua Vana and the University Program Board are really excited about the disk. Get your own copy of the limited EP’s in Taylor 205A, Monday through Friday!

Away From My Door Released Tomorrow!

Joshua Vana Show

This Wednesday, Joshua Vana prepares to release his new EP Away From My Door. We first had the opportunity to hear Joshua at the 2008 Rumble Down Under, where he impressed both the audience and judges with his unique style of music, which he describes as “under the umbrella of Americana”.

Joshua grew up listening to his parent’s old LP’s, in particular Chuck Berry. He started playing guitar at the age of 12, but didn’t really start performing until he started attending JMU. His musical influences range from Woody Guthrie to Muddy Waters.

If Joshua could collaborate with any artist on a CD, his choice would be David Rawlings and Gillian Welch. He is always enthralled with them and “is blown away by their music”. And maybe some day he’ll have that chance. After graduation, he plans to continue to be a musical expeditionary. He also is currently in the works of forming his own music publishing company.

So come out this Wednesday to TDU at 8pm, and hear Joshua perform some of the songs on Away From My Door. The EP’s will also be available to buy for $5!
